Outline
Thesis statement: Gambling is becoming a social activity, it is more popular mow. But on the other side, it leads to many disadvantages.

1. The history of gambling.
A. Archeological evidence suggests that even the earliest caveman was a gambler.
B. Around 2300 B.C., the Chinese invented a game of chance using tiles, and 1100 years later Greek soldiers amused themselves with dice games, though in ancient Greece gambling was illegal. In Egypt, a pair of ivory dice was found in Thebes dating back to 1500 B.C., and ancient gambling artifacts have been unearthed in China, Japan, India and Rome.
2. Gambling in America
Using data from a sample of 150 Native American mothers of a child 6 to 15 years old, this study examined the relations between and among mothers' gambling, parenting in the home environment, social supports, and child behavior problems.
3. Social view on gambling
Magistrate Dorian Murray has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested in a gambling raid at the Poker Palace in Atlanta, Georgia. U.S. representative Ron Paul has offered his support to a legislative bill proposed by representative Barney Frank that would establish licensing for Internet gambling. Dealers at the Wynn Las Vegas casino resort in Las Vegas, Nevada have voted for union representation after management ordered dealers to share tips with pit bosses.
4. several irrational beliefs prevail in problem gamblers. Despite some contradictions, mainly the belief of being in control and depressive mood, are reported to differentiate between problem gamblers and non-problem gamblers. The aim of the present study is to evaluate and compare irrational beliefs and depressed mood among problem gamblers and matched controls, screened-out from the general Swedish population. The hypothesis is that problem gamblers, in comparison to nonproblem gamblers, should exhibit more tendencies towards irrational beliefs and be in a more depressive mood.

Effects of globalization in songs

Last week, I did an investigation on how globalization affects songs, here is my opinion.

Globalization affects many aspects of the whole world, and most of these aspects are related to financial problems. So does modern music. Nowadays, music artists are more and more like to combine more languages into lyrics of a song. Now, let me introduce one of these songs that I am familiar with.

There are lots of famous songs in China that combines Chinese, English, Japanese, French and even some of other languages that I do not familiar with. One of my favorite song is called “Mei Li De Shen Hua” which is the song from the movie “Shen Hua” and sang by the actor and actress in that movie, Jackie Chan and Korean famous actress Kim Hee Seon. From the lyrics and the plot of a play, we can easily see that this song is talking about love. As most of songs are talking about love, people now are trying to find some ways to make their songs more popular and different from other song. People are usually easy to be attracted with new things and something that they cannot understand. For this reason, lots of records company wants to use other language, or in other words, using non-native language to express the inner meaning of the songs to make the audience’s ear a fresh. In Mei Li De Shen Hua, the song writer used Chinese and Korean to express the love story in the movie. The song can be as popular is not only because of its wonderful melody, but also, Chinese are really interested in Korean and its culture, people wants to know some from Korean songs. And also, as the song is combining Chinese and Korean, it will not only be popular and interested by Chinese, but also, Korean will also love this song. On the other aspect, sometimes combing more than one language can make the song more rhyming and even more fitting the feeling and the story that the song want to interpret.

The reason why they switched the song like that is not only because the native language of those two are Chinese and Korean. For sure they can use other languages such as English which is more convenience for more people around the world to accept. It is because they are forced to use such languages. At the time that the song was written, lots of Chinese are interested in Korean, also, we called the Korean Wind was blowing strongly in China, the record company wants to fit the public taste, so they used Chinese for Chinese to understand and used Korean to fit their taste at that time.

So, as what I said, songs are not only sang by its singer’s native language, for some reason, they often add some other component into that song to fit audience taste, attract and fresh them, also, in this way, the song can be flooded with some other aroma.

Thesis statement:
Acid rain is caused by three reasons and can bring negative effect.

Topic sentences:
1. The components from the exhaust gas of vehicles make a contribution to acid rain.
1) People earn more now. Life quality promoted
2) More cars are purchased.
3) More waste gas is released.
2. The sulfide products from factory or burning fossil fuel let acid rain easily produced.
1) Most energy use to manufacture and warm is from burning fossil fuel.
2) Although there is filter, but chemicals also released.
3. Over use of CFC or refrigerator brings convenience to result acid rain.
1) Every family got refrigerator.
2) CFC from refrigerator reacts to hydrochloric acid which is the main component of acid rain.
4. Many buildings are devastated.
1) Some buildings are made of limestone.
2) Limestone reacts with acid rain.
3) Some historical building is disappeared (erode) because of the acid rain.

outline for Compare-and-contrast

Thesis statement:
There are some differences and similarities between using book and searching Internet to get information.

Body Paragraphs:

Differences are presented more: (Internet goes first)
1. More can be found as modern news; can find some past events and truth(like 1000 years ago)
2. Can be sorted by different category; More specific on certain topic.
(like myself, if I want to search sometiong on "biology", I would like to use internet because it gives me all information on "biology" but if I want to check "mitochondrion", I would like to use specific books because it is more focusing on it.)

3. Easy to be moved and used; hard to pack.
(like we can use internet with a laptop with WIFI to check anything that we want to use, but sometimes we cannot carry lots of books and we need to go to library to check the book we want)


There are also some similarities:
1. Can find lots of information
(Both internet and books can show us lots of information)
2. Some of information are the same and shown in both of them.
(some facts, history are shown in both and also, some books have some electric versions on the internent)


Conclusion:
Because of the similarities and differences, we need to use both of them as sources.

I am Wang Yuhao. You can just call me Harry. I am 18 years old. I come from Beijing, China. I graduate from Beijing Huijia private school IB department. For sure there are about 10 people each year come to UIUC from my high school. I am now majoring in Mathematics and decide to take chemical and biomolecular engineering as minor. I live in bromley hall now with my high school classmates, Richard, my roommate and Connor, Danny, Shuang, Tiffany and Cherish. I live in a three people family with my parents for sure and two dongs, a Chow Chow named Yoyo and a German Shepherd dog called Huanghuang. I really like to play badminton, pool and I really like to swim. I can also play French horn.
