Outline on Research

Outline
Thesis statement: Gambling is becoming a social activity, it is more popular mow. But on the other side, it leads to many disadvantages.

1. The history of gambling.
A. Archeological evidence suggests that even the earliest caveman was a gambler.
B. Around 2300 B.C., the Chinese invented a game of chance using tiles, and 1100 years later Greek soldiers amused themselves with dice games, though in ancient Greece gambling was illegal. In Egypt, a pair of ivory dice was found in Thebes dating back to 1500 B.C., and ancient gambling artifacts have been unearthed in China, Japan, India and Rome.
2. Gambling in America
Using data from a sample of 150 Native American mothers of a child 6 to 15 years old, this study examined the relations between and among mothers' gambling, parenting in the home environment, social supports, and child behavior problems.
3. Social view on gambling
Magistrate Dorian Murray has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested in a gambling raid at the Poker Palace in Atlanta, Georgia. U.S. representative Ron Paul has offered his support to a legislative bill proposed by representative Barney Frank that would establish licensing for Internet gambling. Dealers at the Wynn Las Vegas casino resort in Las Vegas, Nevada have voted for union representation after management ordered dealers to share tips with pit bosses.
4. several irrational beliefs prevail in problem gamblers. Despite some contradictions, mainly the belief of being in control and depressive mood, are reported to differentiate between problem gamblers and non-problem gamblers. The aim of the present study is to evaluate and compare irrational beliefs and depressed mood among problem gamblers and matched controls, screened-out from the general Swedish population. The hypothesis is that problem gamblers, in comparison to nonproblem gamblers, should exhibit more tendencies towards irrational beliefs and be in a more depressive mood.
